VALE: JAMES HADDOW MCINTOSH
We are greatly saddened today to reportf the passing of James (Jimmy) McIntosh at 96 years of age.One who taught so much to so many. Always very generous with his time and knowledge. A great supporter of the R U Brown Piobaireachd Society and in fact a past work colleague and personal friend to a number of our members. Thoughts to his family, friends and students. He will be sadly missed.
CORONA VIRUS PUTS HALT TO AUSTRALIA'S BIGGEST PIPING EVENTS
The Australian Government has suggested cancelling any public event with more than 500 people in attendance as of Monday 16 March 2020. Obviously the intention is to slow the spread of the Corona Virus. The two biggest Piping events in 2020 would be the Australian Pipe Band Championships, due to be held on the 4th and 5th of April in Maryborough, Victoria. With bands travelling from all states and neighbouring countries, some school bands were the first to pull out of the event, which has now been postponed, probably until October or later.
The second biggest event to be cancelled would be the the R U Brown Piobaireachd Society competition due to be held on the 9th May. Organisers have called off this years event despite its size being smaller than the recommended number of attendees, but it was felt that many of the visiting guests, competitors and judges were of the age that they fell into the severe risk category and it would be prudent to avoid risking their exposure, especially with many competitors flying in from interstate or overseas.
Organisers of both events obviously believe this to be the most prudent course of action and hope that anyone put out by the cancellations will be understanding.

VALE
ERNEST DOWLER OAM
It is our sad duty to advise of the passing of Pipe Major Ernest Dowler OAM on
the evening of Friday 22nd July 2011. Pipe Major of both the Royal
Caledonian Society Pipe Band and The Adelaide University Regiment,
tutor for many years at Scotch College - Adelaide and also a tutor
at The City of Adelaide Pipe Band. In 2009 Ern was awarded the
Order of Australia Medal for his services to Piping, an award many
thought was long overdue.
Ern had a huge influence on piping in South Australia and his enthusiasm, drive
and encouragement will be sadly missed. Our thoughts are with his
family at this time.
Many a humorous story will be remembered, but most of all Ern was a true Highland
Gentleman. |

of recordings of piobaireachd from competitions where Bruce has won major
prizes. Funds from sales will go toward the Society. The CD is due for
release shortly.
